Mark Wilson

Head of Development

Mark is Head of Development for Kterio and leads a multi-disciplined team of developers working on both our cloud and edge-based projects. He has accumulated over two decades of engineering experience spanning multiple disciplines encompassing software development, BMS engineering, electronic engineering, network management, and telecommunications.

Mark began his career with Océ (now Canon) where he quickly progressed to leading a small technical team, performing pre-installation quality control on large volume printing machines, after designing and developing a dedicated logging system to monitor fault trends and their associated remedial actions for feedback to the manufacturing division. He then went on to obtain a computer sciences BSc degree specialising in the field of audio technology at the University of Huddersfield which quickly led him to a role with EMI at the world-renowned Abbey Road recording studios.

While based at Abbey Road, and in addition to studio related technical engineering responsibilities, Mark designed and developed a full end-to-end software solution for automating the process of importing digital media orders, the collation and bulk transcoding of required media into the relevant format(s) (from central archive) and direct distribution to a secure download area (a process that became critical at that time due to the rapid growth in users of iPods and other digital media players).

After later moving on to a more senior role as a network manager within the construction industry, Mark transitioned into the field of building management systems and controls. He quickly became adept in the engineering aspects from system design through to commissioning, working with various systems and protocols, while also developing custom software tools to automate engineering processes.

With the combination of specialist skills accumulated from his previous and diverse roles, Mark joined a growing IoT tech start-up in the smart lighting space. He worked in several technical capacities relating to the development of a smart lighting control and sensing solution (with a focus on hardware/ embedded software) and is a primary inventor for two granted US patents relating to automated lighting system commissioning. Mark progressed to the role of Software Development Manager and led the development of an automated BMS data onboarding and normalisation solution which directly leads into his current engagement with Kterio.
